Australia’s screen and games industry generated $11.1 billion in gross value added (GVA) in 2023/24, representing 17.4% of all cultural and creative activity. The industry creates economic value on a scale comparable to sectors such as air and space transport and rental and hiring services.

The screen and games industry employed 68,844 Australians in 2024/25, spanning creative, technical, operational and business roles. Production remains the largest employer, accounting for almost 40% of the screen workforce.

Digital games development is the fastest-growing sector across screen and games. Employment has more than tripled since 2016/17, while the value generated by the industry has grown at almost the same rate.
